what i do for PPN

Having been a proud member of the Professional Photographers of Nebraska since 2011 and the Director of Publications + Advertising + Marketing + Photography since last year, I don’t think I’ve ever really said what i actually DO for the organization. I’m a huge cheerleader for PPN… but on top of that, I design all our publications, marketing pieces, t shirts… pretty much everything my title says I do. This keeps me pretty busy… but I love it! I have a great sense of pride every time we print a publication that I designed from blank, white pages. It’s pushed me creatively and pushed me outside my box. As a board, one of our main goals this last year was to make our image more hip and modern… appeal to the younger demographic of photographers out there. To be honest, I, myself, was reluctant to join because of my perception of this vintage organization. Founded in 1946, it was mainly made up of men; those ‘old school’ male photographers who are into 3 piece suits and artificial studio backdrops. Not something I necessarily wished to be a part of.  But I joined and it CHANGED MY WORLD.

I now have the best circle of friends I could ask for… all like-minded and creative. And let’s be honest. Most portrait photographers out there (in Nebraska, anyway) are now women! Yay for girls! Move over men! In fact, our board of directors currently has a lady president and is comprised of mostly women  : ) How empowered I feel. My next project is publishing our new PPN blog!

I use Adobe Creative Cloud InDesign for all our publications.

This program is the shizzle! So much better for text than photoshop.
