volunteering

this time of year I get to spend a lot of time at S.C.L.P.  It makes me feel whole and at peace…the way photography does.  so if you’re wondering why I post about the rescue all the time, that’s why. It’s passion No. 2.

Chore times are busy everyday… a typical day consists of chores at:

8am [potty + feeding]

12pm [potty + playtime]

4pm [potty + playtime + baths/medication as needed + cleaning + feeding No. 2]

*this is the main time kids come after school to help with chores

and 8pm for a final potty and securing of the building.

So you can see there is always a lot going on… not to mention the rescue also houses boarders, grooming, and doggy dare care on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We’re planning a volunteer appreciation event soon as well as an Oscar night fundraiser. And while the rescue is all volunteer run and relies solely on donations (we receive NO government financial support), we love getting other things besides money as well. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very sweet when we get doggie sweaters and pet toys donated, but there is such a need for useful items we constantly run low on. things like:

paper towels

dish soap

laundry detergent (our machine is HE, fyi ; )

bleach

glass cleaner

toilet paper

dog food/treats

Just some things to keep in mind next time you’re at Wal Mart… and I’m guessing your local rescue would love the same kinds of things left on their doorstep, too. : )

I dreamt last night about my late Grandpa Newton.  He was a farmer who passed away when I was 16. I was never old enough to see him healthy (he was diabetic) but in my dreams, he’s always strong and well. For that I’m thankful. But in this most recent dream, I asked him if there were dogs in heaven.

He didn’t want to tell me. He wanted me to be excited to wait and see for myself. He said all he could tell me about were the birds. I asked again, ‘that’s wonderful! but what about the dogs?’

He finally told me that yes, there were.

And that they are all puppies.

What a great dream.
