Today is March 12th.

Today is the 12th anniversary of our engagement. On March 12th, 2001, we were home from college for the weekend and Ryan needed to buy some work jeans at Pamida. ‘How romantic’ you’re thinking… well, it was a pretty nice night for March and Ry suggested we walk, as it was only a few blocks from my parent’s house. It was a dark night. 60ish degrees. And I thought nothing of this…walking was something we did a lot of. We went to the store, browsed around, left with a couple pairs of Wranglers (Ryan was a drywaller back in the day. sale jeans really excited him) and headed back home.  We were nearly there and all of a sudden our conversation went from supper to how much i loved him. Then there he was on his knee, the open box in his hands. Naturally you know what happened next…I said yes, there were tears, then he continued to drop my ring in a puddle. It was so dark, we had to sprint back to my parent’s house to get a flashlight. That’s our story. Now we’re about to celebrate our 10th anniversary in June and very very happy.

Today is also the anniversary of the McCartney’s wedding: Paul and Linda.

*sigh*

what an inspiration Linda McCartney is to me on a daily basis. And their love story is as romantic as it gets. Paul, being my music idol and loved member of The Beatles, and Linda a New York photographer/animal rights activist, met in 1967 and got married on March 12th, 1969 in London. They raised 4 children together and lived a lot of their married lives on a farm in Scotland surrounded by beauty, family, and lots of animals. Such a dream. my favorite book is Linda McCartney, Life in Photographs. I bet i’ve looked through a dozen times. So many beautiful photos by Linda. Some of the famous people she’s photographed behind the scenes in her career, but the ones that really touch my spirit are those captured in the heart of their home life. Especially her self portraits. Her beauty is simple and natural. So is Paul’s. Even though they could probably buy the moon with their fortune, they chose to live simply. I just adore them. And they never spent 1 night away from each other in all their years—-until Paul got arrested for having the grass and had to go to jail for a couple weeks [oopsie] and, of course, when Linda passed away from breast cancer in 1998. : (

I’m so thankful to know Linda’s work…and it’s amazing to read how her children remember their mother with the camera. She remains an inspiration to so many. Thank you, Linda. I share your passion and think we could have been best friends in a different life.
