new paint job reveal!

a fresh injection of color in the living room…

It’s the boring, dull part of Winter when all the Christmas stuff is put away and I’ve kon-marie’d every closet and the kitchen already. We’re in full on hibernation mode so maybe we find ourselves sitting on the couch more often. In doing so, one starts to drift into a land of ‘what if.’

For example… what if we got a new rug in here. What if we switched the couch from the studio in here…. what if we (gasp) painted something other than WHITE in here?!

So I did it. I mindfully went to Simons Home Store and got some swatches…. I chose the perfect shade of turquoise, picked a weekend, and didn’t tell Ryan until the day-of. He was pretty shocked to say the least at my choice, but all-in-all we all are obsessed with it. It’s sexy, makes the TV disappear and it’s not white. What do you think?

the Harris family at home

If you woulda told me 20 years ago that I’d be photographing Ben Harris’ family, I wouldn’t have believed you…

When are we shooting at YOUR place?

the Dunavan boys

who doesn’t love a gaggle of little men who love to wrestle?

They were sure troopers… this day was about 23 degrees.

the Esau family at home

Brett and Darcy live in a super old house in our hometown. It was built in 1886 and is actually haunted by an elderly gentleman wearing suspenders and a top hat. No joke. Not only has Darcy seen him 3 times now (once while she was nursing Navy in the living room she watched him walk right though their dining room table!) but also her mom and brother have seen him. They said they didn’t feel frightened by him but that he looked like a grey fuzzy silent figure just minding his own business. Crazy!

I’d love to see YOUR home… it’s where the heart is.

the Homes family

Talk about a couple of gorgeous girls. And they are BUSY.

When they are both home, they definitely make family time priority.

pours for the park!

Wahoo’s getting a new dog park! And we’re taking little strides to reach out BIG goals. Every dollar counts and it turns out people really (really) like to drink for a good cause. That or an excuse to drink on a Sunday afternoon. We sold 47 tickets and oh my goodness we will do another one because this was way too much fun. Thanks to The Still, Hyvee, Cellar 426 and everyone who braved the cold and ice yesterday afternoon. Prelim numbers are around $2k! woot woot! One step closer to putting in fence…

the Kreifels family

Seems like I’m hearing the most inspiring adoptions stories lately!

I first met Leanna through a mutual photographer friend a couple years ago and was so happy to get a chance to shoot her sweet family. They began the process to adopt their sweet little girl TWO YEARS ago and it’s finally official! These are the best kind of shoots. Not only have they had to ‘hide’ her face whenever they post images to the web but just live in secret. Well not anymore. Announcing the newest member of the Kreifels family!

Oliver | New Zealand actor

Talk about a random meeting…

Meet Oliver Davidson… he’s from New Zealand, he’s an actor, and he’s extremely TALL. Intimidatingly tall. Like 6’8″. He happened to be visiting a client of mine and tagged along to her headshot. While they were both in studio we made the executive decision to shoot him too. He’s so cool. I could listen to him talk for hours.
