so………….. we’ve been spending our free time last month to get from this monstrosity:

not to mention the giant load we took to Goodwill, we found lots (and lots and lots) of loose, random newspaper clippings, photos, various award certificates, etc… that had never been put away in an album or archived at all. They were mostly from frames we got tired of, doubles from my Mom, or ones that were on the fridge at one time that got added to ‘the pile.’ Well… they needed a home, gosh darn it. So it finally happened. I’ve spent hours going through the cedar chest, too, given to us by my parents. It was very fun and nostalgic to go through, that’s for sure. Just some of what we found in the labyrinth of the chest:
– my old girl scout uniform (with my last 20 badges NOT attached yet)
– Toby’s tuxedo from our wedding
– Ryan’s baseball card collection
– our class rings
– an old Sears catalog my mom saved from the year I was born
– love letters from Ryan
– old magazines from the 1960’s
– rare baby pictures of Ryan (since he was adopted)
I got the cedar chest whittled down to half capacity (yay!) and have since put all those random photos in old-school albums. Luckily they all fit into 2 books. I’m finally getting those last 20 badges sewed onto my girl scout vest (thanks, Rosie!) and getting Ryan’s banking school diploma framed. It’s a pretty amazing feeling to not have that mess lurking in the basement. And the most embarrassing thing: you know when you graduate from high school and you make a photo collage out of poster board and scotch tape? Yeah…. I totally did that and never ever put the pictures away. It’s been, uh…. 14 years on my to-do list.
but the mess is no longer!
