all i could hum last night was one of my favorite Beatles songs: When I’m 64
we’ve been able to spend a lot of hours outdoors lately. i’m kind of obsessed with our new garden, too. we all are — and when i say ‘all’ i mean our neighbors, too. we’re making a co-op! they lack space, we have lots. i lack know-how. they know their veggies. perfect.
we broke ground last night and the boys tag-teamed tilling up our patch. ashley and i made our list of produce. perhaps a bit ambitious… but i’m more apt to go ape sh** planting things because of the co-op factor. we plan to plant (either by seed or seedling): popcorn; ornamental corn; carrots; beets; yellow onion; garlic; green onions; string beans; sugar snaps; peas; edamame; eggplant, broccoli; jalapeños; green bell peppers; tomatoes; potatoes; cucumbers; pumpkins; and acorn squash. oh— and basil, parsley, oregano, and cilantro in pots.
should make for an interesting summer. any gardening tips for us??
our magnolia tree is in full bloom, theres random heirloom early spring flowers popping up, and look at our pussy willow! fuzzy wuzzy was a bear….
Sheila - A Co-op? Is there room for one more? What would my job be? By June – I’d be ready for some bending and sweating and dirt. And so would my toddler! I have asparagus here – but that only requires picking!
I have no tips, except weed regularly, put up fences around stuff the critters will eat, and try to hold on to the enthusiasm as long as possible!
Growing up – we always a had a huge garden – and it by the time harvest came – we were all sick of it!
But I’d love to have a huge stock pile of tomatoes for freezing! Tomatoes in a can are SO BAD for you. (Think BPA!)
Rebecca - I am SUPER jealous of your garden!! I’ve been wanting one ever since we moved into a house. I’m still begging to build a raised garden in the backyard. Thanks to your veggie list, I’ve added edamame to mine!
