a working weekend…

Our weekend was neither restful nor relaxing. We worked, but we had a pretty fun time doing it!

After my shoot Friday, we loaded up the truck with paint brushes, caulking gun and the like to leave bright and early Saturday morning for Beatrice. We own a duplex there — a sort of wedding gift from my Dad — and one side is currently vacant so we thought before we have a new person’s stuff all up in there, we’d get a couple projects banged out. This property is a love/hate relationship for us. As soon as we took ownership of it around 2003, it needed a furnace update. Something that cost around $8,000. This was our modest life’s savings as newlyweds and that sucked. Plain and simple. To spend all that money on a house that we didn’t even LIVE IN?!! It was heartbreaking and sad to say the least, but it meant that we could charge more for rent because it now had central air and rock star heat. Since then, we’ve painted it a couple times, done some odds-and-ends repairs, but overall, it’s been a pretty good little rental property. We like to rent to the single lady with no pets. We’ve been very lucky with our renters, too. Super nice, clean gals. So if you are a single, clean, female in need of a 1 bedroom in Beatrice, give us a shout! : )

It’s a very historic little place… lots of charm and character…

this was one of our projects… painting this entry. All the doors were BLUE. ick.

the in-laws were gracious enough to help us out a bit

but mostly, Ryan was the work pony. Love you babe!

After a late super with my mom on the farm, we headed home….

…only to leave AGAIN Sunday to finish up my Aunt and Uncle’s project!

see the first phase HERE.

My Uncle Mike is my mom’s baby bro and his wife, Jenni has a fabulous greenhouse near Benedict, NE.

8 hours of install. hauling in, assembling, installing, steaming, attaching, cleaning, etc…

and my pretty Grandma oversaw. : )

here is there sad, sad, pitiful bedroom BEFORE:

living with it like this for the last 15 years……..

and here it is AFTER!

(sorry about the crappy phone pics. my big camera simply would not fit in our truck!)

We were able to keep Jenni out all day while we worked our magic.

She loved the finish project!

She said she finally felt like an ‘adult.’

I was so happy to do this for them. Especially since they had a very nice budget to work with.

After the ‘reveal’ we had the perfect late Summer Nebraskan supper.

mmmmmmmmm

hope you all had a great weekend!

I took this morning off to recover. ; )
